About Angel:
Hi! I’m Angel, a 4th year Pharmacology student. My research experience began in first year, when I participated in the FoM SSRP program. I studied the clinical effects of a novel cystic fibrosis treatment in the Quon Lab, which culminated in a poster presentation. The next summer, I joined the Gao Lab at Johns Hopkins Asthma and Allergy Center where I began research into the molecular basis of asthma. This resulted in two publications in early 2026. Meanwhile, I also joined the Johnson Lab at UBC LSI, conducting research on the effects of PDK1 on diabetic mouse myocytes. I have had a variety of research experience across various topics, but starting in research with no connections or experience was quite difficult. For example, I sent ~70-80 cold emails during first year, with only 2 responses. Now that I have witnessed the process firsthand, I believe I can give advice and guidance to new student researchers who want to make the most of their undergraduate degree as I have.
