About Katie:
I am a third year undergraduate student majoring in combined honors biochemistry and chemistry. I started working at the UBC Reid Lab the summer after my first year, and I currently lead a research project analyzing multi-step organic synthesis reactions. Previously, I completed a STEM Internship program at the University of Bristol in the Itasaki Lab investigating how cancer stem cells gain stemness based on their microenvironment. Separately, I completed two URO REX projects that I presented at MURC. My first project focused on building a machine learning model to predict hospital visits for chronic airway diseases. My second project focused on identifying the mechanisms for how a cancer drug, Enhertu, causes interstitial lung disease.
