RIF is a research recruitment event that directly connects undergraduate students and research faculty through a speed-interview style.

Through collecting undergraduate students’ applications, we pair them with interested faculty members for a one-on-one 15 minutes discussion. This event will allow PIs to meet a large number of interested students as well as allowing students to practice interview skills.

This year, this event will take place on Zoom at late-February (exact date TBD)

How does it work?

Once applicants submit their applications, the Student Engagement Committee (SEC) will screen through the entire pool and select applicants that’ve demonstrated the most enthusiasm and commitment in research. Based on the indicated research interest, SEC will pair the shortlisted applicants with faculty members in similar fields.

Applicants need to have the following requirement in order to participate in this event:

  • Must possess URO membership
  • A current UBC Undergraduate student
  • Complete and submit the application prior to the indicated deadline —- this includes submitting a resume
  • Excited and open to exploring various research fields!

The application will open in January!

If your lab is looking for enthusiastic undergraduates to help out in the summer or at any capacity, please sign up to participate in this event!

We will do the screening for you! Upon shortlisting, we will pair you with multiple interested students who share similar research interests. Over a 2-hour period, you will have the opportunity to engage in brief one-on-one conversations with each of them. You are free to proceed with any next steps involving the students you’ve interviewed, provided that any decisions are made mutually.

The sign-up will open in January!
