About Angel:
To narrow my research interests in molecular biology, I have gained a diverse range of research experiences. I started out in a plant genomics lab that focused on characterizing transcription factor interactions during germination. During my co-op, I have worked briefly for a government lab at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in Ottawa, where I made lateral flow assays (like COVID-19 or pregnancy tests) to detect bovine tuberculosis and Listeria monocytogenes. The bulk of my co-op and overall research experience come from a yeast lab, where I assessed an autism-related gene in yeast and characterized some membrane tethering proteins at ER-plasma membrane contact sites. In September, for my honours thesis, I will be working on discovering and classifying viruses within certain marine invertebrates. During my research stints, I’ve been awarded several undergraduate research grants, including the NSERC USRA and FoM SSRP. Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading, writing, and video games.
